Seeing Flipper dash after the strange waitress, Shadow dashes outside to the back stairwell to try and intercept her from the rear.

Flipper and Glass arrived seconds before the waitress appeared at the top of the stairs. She darted silently to the nearest closed door and pressed her ear against it, a look of intense concentration on her face.

Upon reaching the top of the stairs, Flipper quickly ducked into an open door of a room with the owner out for the moment, and changed his clothing; wen he came out a few seconds later, he was dressed in a completely different set of clothes courtesy of his amulet. He now looked much more local, but at the same time didn't show much of himself - specifically, his face was covered. A mote of essence flowed through him as his ears disappeared into the sides of his head, mercifully hidden by the upturned hood of his poncho, which permitted little to be seen of his face in general. Though his human ears were gone, his hearing paradoxically improved manyfold, such that he could make out a good bit more than otherwise, if he got closer. And get closer he did, casually, staying about three feet off and pretending to listen to the discordant musicians on the second floor.

Glass faced with similar circumstances moved  to a nearby door, and waited next to it feigning knocking a few times. He hoped his defense of waiting to get into someone else's room would hold up to scrutiny as he propped his own hood up over his ears, as they similarly became absences that somehow granted him the enhanced hearing of the mighty hawk. Ignoring the accidental change of his tongue that prompted him to also raise a minor face mask, he feigned knocking one more time and shook his head impatiently. Hopefully whatever she was listing in on was important, or he was wasting his time.

The world faded away as Glass's senses narrowed in on just the sounds coming from beyond the door. Anger. Curses. One of the voices--the angry one-- was well-educated, smoothly sliding from official sounding High Realm to the more conversational Low Realm. The surly responses were all in Low Realm, in the tone of a disgruntled subordinate. Something was clearly not going according to plan, and the boss was not happy.

Flipper came up behind the woman, leaned over her shoulder, and whispered in her ear. "Sounds like there's something good going on in there," he said, giving her a knowing look. "I take it your Realm is better than mine; you mind sharing what's going on in there that's so important?"

Startled, the waitress jumped, spun around in midair, and landed facing Flipper. She started propelling the Lunar toward the nearest open door. She was more athletic than she looked.

Reaching the outside stairwell Shadow decides now would be a good time to disappear, as it is easy to stop someone if they don't know your there. Upon reaching the door to the top floor, Shadow steps inside to see Flipper being pushed by the waitress at the far end of the hallway. Quickly drawing his bow, he prepares to defend Flipper if the need arises .

Flipper was confused. By all means, he shouldn't have been able to hear what the waitress was saying. Her lips were moving, but there was no air, no vibrations of the vocal cords, yet her voice came through crisp and clear.

"There are Realm soldiers in there! What are they doing here? They were supposed to be tied up with Calin politics," she said, plunging her hands back into her pockets as her eyes darted around the room. Her gaze snapped back to Flipper. "Who are *you*? You should leave. It's not safe. Not yet, anyways."

Flipper reached around and closed the door behind them, affording them some privacy from the passersby, but notably not from Glass. "Who am I? I'm just a guy with an ironic fondness for low-end noodles. I'd be more concerned with who you are. Though I'd advise, if you're pretending to be a waitress, you should at least have the foggiest idea about the local cuisine and maybe clear a table every now and then for good measure. At least have a clue where the kitchen is, am I right?"
He leaned back on the wall, casually checking his nails.
"Though I do take it you're no friend of the Realm's... a child of Mela, I'd wager a guess? Most people need to do more than lip-flap to talk."

Sighing, the waitress mouthed a few words. This time, Flipper heard nothing but the din of the Wok. Pausing, the waitress pursed her lips as she appraised the odd noodle enthusiast who knew her secret.
